Slave ownership is a limitation of personal liberty. Pre-Civil War conservatives believed that it was their right to own other human beings. If I own someone, doesn't that limit their personal liberty? Post war conservatives moved away? from Lincoln's party. Post-Civil War conservatives (then Democrats) attempted to limit the freedom of their former slaves, which is also an affront against the personal liberties of African Americans. Post-Civil Rights act, conservatives became Republicans again.

I do though. Like I said, the scientific literature don't show any danger. We've been eating them for 30 years and haven't seen anything like tobacco smoking effects over that time period. And that is where I have my problem. Not with people's "right to know". Of course people have rights to know things. Now as far as the legitimacey of the studies, we know what a pack of liars and bribe takers the National Academies of Sciences and the Royal Society of Medicine are. I will be pro labeling as soon as we have reason to think there is a legitimate health risk. People tend to forget products are extensively? tested before they go on the market in the first place. I agree that patents/copyrights are not a good thing. I don't believe in them at all on anything. Now, the problem with labeling GMO is that it is a break from historical FDA policy on GRAS products. That if it hasn't been shown to be dangerous, it doesn't need a label. Now to label everything would cost money (both to the companies and the government monitoring the products) and the extra price tag gets? passed on to us. As they pose no health risk, this seems like a bad deal for me personally.
