The only method is: NEVER give them your hands and feet to play and NEVER EVER keep one kitten alone, so they have someone to play, who can take a few bites and gives back the favour. @insanepunk31 Don't lock him in a room - if you want him to bond with you he needs to spend time with you. Simply - when he's bad, SHOUT at him, when he's good give him a treat. When? you give him a treat, stroke/cuddle him. After awhile, treats and cuddles will mean the same thing to him!

@mehfuckit It's not too late to train your cat to play gently :) just start with basics and be paaaaatient with him. It's harder to change behavior if the cat has been allowed to play rough for years, but? it's not impossible. I would start with giving him a treat everytime he touches your hand gently (outside the playing) and with time you start to demand more from him: gently paw with plays etc. If he scratches you, you stop the play and go away. Always remember to reward for wanted action.

@1971SuperLead actually I really don't mind it playing rough with me, but if a child were to play with him I kind of worry they may get hurt, and I never would hit him, chances are he'd hit me right back anyway xD? thanks for the advice though, I'll see what I can do.

This is wonderful! JJ is obviously having a fun time which is so important! (and so cute!:) While I've never tried anything like this with our kitties, we do teach some simple tricks like sit up and roll over. My last cat learned to sit up, get " shot" by us pointing at him & saying "Bang", he would fall over & play dead. Was hysterical! Cats? can learn tricks if you have patience & start them young. We train horses & have found a lot of the mental process involved can also work for kitties.

@cutesofty3009 Yes! Feed your kitten a? high-quality canned food that's mostly meat. Don't feed it dry food. Feed your kitten at regular times. Or better yet, get a book from the library on caring for kittens....I think the biggest mistake people make when it comes to training cats is letting them free-feed, that means, eat whenever they want from a bowl full of dry food. If you let a cat free-feed, it will be hard to train him. Because he doesn't care about kitty treats, he is never hungry!

Make sure Kitten is OK with using a raised litterbox before you proceed? You don't want to go too fast. Then make sure you start? with a setup with a small hole so Kitten doesn't fall into the toilet by accident! That would be tragic!

@dougiehoney Hi! I think as soon as the kitten starts trying to use a litterbox, you can begin the training. With a kitten, make sure it is using a litterbox in the bathroom first. Get a toilet seat and put it over the litterbox like I did in the video. Make sure kitty is using it OK.? After a few days of this, you can begin raising this set-up. Put a thin phonebook under it, a couple inches. After a week or so, add another book, another couple inches. Until it is as high as the toilet.

A big Thanks to Julie. I trained 9- that's right 9- cats to use the toilet with this method. I did purchase CityKitty and LitterQuitter but they are too flat and my cats liked the 'bowl' feel of the insert. I went to my dollar store and purchased a bunch of large sturdy plastic tubs/bowls. The training took me a long time as I have 9 cats of all different ages but it is SO worth it! One note, use flushable litter like World Best or SwheatScoop. No need to pay a plumber? when your pipes back up!

@cherina137: Actually Benjamin never drank from the toilet. What you can do, is put a bowl of fresh water on the floor next to the toilet.? That way, when you start training them to use the toilet as a litterbox, they won't have the awkward sensation that they are soiling their own drinking water.

I am happy to report that Benjamin no longer has any training basin in the toilet. I just got tired of removing it and? so he pees & does his other business directly into the toilet! It's soooo great to not have a litterbox, buy litter, empty it, wash it, have litter everywhere. p.s. Benjamin is a dumb cat. It's just that I am a smart owner. :P

Both my cats use the toilet after training with litter quitter. Everyone that comes over is amazed. I LOVE not having to deal with cat litter! Having to flush when I walk by the bathroom is no big deal. I heard there is a spring thing for the bottom of the seat that will automatically flush? when the cat jumps down or the person using it gets up. Anyone know where i can get one?

@Happynr12~ I'm 5ft and my 3 adult danes total 3x's my weight. I can control their behaviors with voice commands and body language. I can also walk all three on-leash at a heel at once. Often times, danes are too lazy to rebel. I have found it much easier to stop a dane from doing something I don't want them to do rather than get them to do something I want? them to do. They don't like wasting energy. Persistence is key and starts from day 1. :o) The things Hsin-yi gets Honey to do is amazing.

Yes, absolutely! I clicker train for one command at a time and once they have learned the command word for the action and respond to the actual word itself, I phase out the clicker for that command. Rinse and repeat. I was just curious how she responds when the click is not meant for her. I've yet to test my danes out on it. It would be nice not to have to pin them but I'm afraid they would all be confused with? the extra clicks. :o)

@TVNDanes - I think once the clicker has been properly introduced to a dog, it shouldnt get confused.? I have never had trouble with the CLICK losing it's importance because Honey hears it for other animals but then I only use it as an initial training tool, to mark a behaviour & communicate what I want - I try to phase it out ASAP so I'm not relying on it to get the dog to do things. I think as long as Honey has regular CT sessions of her own, the marker signal will remain important

Honey is like the female version of my male fawn dane, Sampson and Muesli is like the female version of my ocicat mix, Atreyu... Too cute. :o) I do have a question though. I've always pinned my other dogs up in another room while clicker training one at a time as I fear the clicker will lose? it's importance if the other dogs hear the click and do not get the treat. Does clicker training Muesli confuse Honey at all or is there a command you use to let her know the click is not for her?

@10vball01 Your dog is still very young and in 'canine adolescence' when they're still testing you so just keep being consistent in enforcing the "OUT" rule. Don't let her ever get away with it (eg. are you? sure she stays out when you're out of the house? We used to put up a babygate when we couldn't supervise Honey to make she was never successful.) Also, be careful not to reward her in any way when she comes in the kitchen(excited attention can also be reward) - just calmly tell her "OUT"

@10vball01 Yes, she is very good about staying out of the kitchen. We actually removed the tape from the last house - this house has a metal border around the kitchen area. She does sometimes step one paw in if she gets very excited but we just? tell her firmly "OUT!" and stand and watch until she backs out again and then praise her. But diff dogs are diff and some are more persistent/stubborn! :-)

@ChA0sK1ttEn Yes, of course, there are lots of different ways to train. No one is saying you HAVE to use the clicker. I simply made the video and showed the stages to help those who ARE interested in using it, in case they wanted more info. For more specific/complex behaviours, it may be more helpful to have a marker-type training tool - there's a reason why it's used by all the TV trainers & animals wranglers on film -? but it's your own personal choice, no need if you're not interested.

@hsinyicohen Also, the CLICK part of learning should just be very short in the beginning - I try to fade the clicker as soon as possible - so Honey knows that it is just to communicate to her what to do when she is learning - once she knows what she should do, she can get treats without that sound? and she is more focused on the command then. I think the clicker should just be a 'training tool' rather than something you depend on all the time to make your dog do things (not saying you! :-) )
