What ever happened to the old fashion souther recipes that only called for pears and sugar. I remember my grandmother making pear preserves as a child and that was the only two? ingreadents, no honey, no water, or anything else, and those were the best I have ever had.

I think instead of cornstarch to thicken the flour I would use arrow root because it keeps the liquid more translucent and its original color and? doesn't add a cloudy dimension from the white color of the cornstarch. but they look cute like pears you would see painted. my grandfather made this type of pear alot but he baked it in the oven with Sherry and spices.

hi keith !! i did these pears for christmas, 3 with skins on and 3 without skins ,, the ones with skins on looked more nice but i must say the ones with the skins on did not look as pretty but did taste better !! and buy makeing some sauce with some corn starch made a world? of difference along with the caramal sauce and a few nuts !! its even a nice dessert along with some ice cream a bit of hot and cold ! EVERYONE LOVED THEM AND FINISHED EVERY LAST BIT ON THE PLATE !! thanks keith !!

The upright growth are called? watersprouts. This is a normal response after pruning. Remove anything that interferes with other branches. For example if they cross branches you want to keep or they should be removed to open up the tree so that air can circulate better.

Hello, awesome video!!! I am in? central Indiana, and I have a pear tree that gave some massive amount of pears last year, the tree is super tall and I know for a fact that it has not been prunned in at least 5 years, its about a 15 yr old tree, at least 30 ft tall...even one of the branches fell off of the tree last year because it was so heavy with the fruit, I want to cut this at least in half for this year, but I thougt I needed to do it in the early spring????

The tree is 15-20 years old. The holes are probably wood boring beetles. There are many species that attack trees when they are stressed. I don't know of any that will cause series damage to pear. Also you may want to contact your? local University Cooperative Extension office if you have specific questions. They should have people that can answer gardening questions. Google your county name and Coop Extension.

Thank you so much, I have just inherited a tree, much like the one in the video. How old is the one you demo'd on. Also there are little round holes in a partial circle around the trunk area. They are not necessary for pear trees. If sprayed immediately after the cuts are made it may help prevent fireblight bacteria from entering a pruning wound, but since the bacteria can also? enter via stomates (pores) on the leaves or any other opening on the plant, I don't see the advantage of using it.

Hosui does need to be pollinated, when the young tree is more established it will do a better job of it.? Not good to be growing them in the lawn, and feeding them lawn fertilizer. That could promote all growth and no fruit. Also, they need a lot less water than your lawn.

I have a Shinseki, Hosui (5 yr, old) and did have another one but it died after a year. I am in Eastern Washington. I think? they all bloomed together. I had one pear on the 5 year old Hosui and maybe 6 small one's on the other. I don't spray or anything but do fertilize the yard with regular Scott's.

Any root system can potentially lift pavers placed in sand. If pavers are set in concrete its much less likely that they will? be disturbed by roots. Also how far from pavers will tree be planted?

Euro pears do not ripen on the tree. You must pick them and ripen them on your counter. Euro pears have a more complex flavor than asian pears, which are mostly just sweet like sugar water. They eat like an apple, and are sometime called apple pears. If you like really sweet fruit go with an Asian pear. If you prefer more acid than sugar from your fruit, go with a? European pear. Or get a couple of each.

I love these trees. I have one in my back? yard, sadly ours wont grow up right do to other trees blocking its sunlight. Even worse we need to get rid of it now because its just leaning to far and the fruit on it is weighing down so its too low. One branch that was on the right side is on top now. Its not good and I really don't want to get rid of it because its lasted 5 years since we moved in. I also really like the fruit.
