Sailing has got to be the greatest sport in the world. Much? more exciting than any ball type sport, even if it is a mono tacking and jibing for hours. The Americas Cup is the chance for sailing to be recognized and should be given the spot light on TV just like any other sport. I know that the Cats are faster and harder to sail and the mono's are like watching grass grow but that is why the Americas Cup should be on TV, so that it will be made more a where to the general public.

Cats are in a class all there own and should be raced that way. Why not have both cats and mono race in the Americas Cup separately and let the public decide on which one to watch, that is if the news TV stations will even bother to broadcast the? Americas Cup.

Well I for one? wil miss the monos.I believe the Americas Cup could have been opened up to the world.they could have gone to a one design like the Tartan ten,because of it's abaiabiity could have brought down costs.I know that it's a dated design I'm not advocating but A Star class race is far more interesting than a Hobie 16 race.Just an opinion no need for nasty e mails.

These boats may be technical, but make no mistake, they are harder to sail on the edge than mono's! The rigging systems will eliminate the need for hulking grinders but physicality is always a must - tactics and mother nature still reign supreme out on the water. I wouldn't care either way. I came to the sport because of mono-hull match racing. The? oldest trophy contest in the world will always remain no matter the class.The deed of gift always welcomes a new era of sailing - as will this!

Have you watched the past 4 or 5 ACs (not the? ones with multihulls)? They were utterly boring-literally hours between tacks. There is Zero chance that those sorts of yacht races will entice TV Coverage which (If you think about it) will be the only way the sport will progress further in this modern era. This is a great step forward.

I disagree, the americas cup has always been about technology and this is a natural progression. This is the future of yacht racing. There are still plenty of other competitions for monohull sailing? purists, but the Americas cup has never been just about sailing.

I can understand that sentiment but these craft are sailing vessels. Imagine if the rules stated that only wood boats with canvas sails are allowed to? compete for the "Americas Cup". Guys with the new fangled plastic boats would be flying by them like they are standing still. It's a natural progression and embodies what human beings can accomplish.
